The trademark of German chocolate brownie is made of mild, sweet chocolate and is irresistibly rich and gooey. A plate of these delectable desserts is not hard to make, and this article will show you just how simple it is to whip up these sweet treats. You will first need the basic ingredients such as a ½ cup of butter (cubed), 4 ounces of German sweet chocolate (or semisweet chocolate) coarsely chopped, 2 eggs (lightly beaten), a ½ cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 cup of all-purpose flour, ½ a teaspoon of baking powder and ¼ teaspoon of salt for the brownie. Next, you will also need the following ingredients for the brownie topping: 2 tablespoons of butter (melted), a ½ cup of packed brown sugar, 1 cup of coconut flakes, a ½ cup of chopped pecan nuts, 2 tablespoons of corn syrup and 2 tablespoons of 2% milk.

Now that you have all the ingredients prepared and ready, it’s time to begin making the scrumptious dessert! Firstly, melt the butter and the chocolate in a bowl in the microwave and stir the mixture until smooth. Leave the mixture to cool. In another bowl, beat the 2 eggs until smooth, add in the sugar and mix well. Then, slowly stir in the vanilla extract and add in the chocolate and butter mixture. Stir the mixture well. Next, combine the flour, baking powder and salt and stir well before gradually adding it to the chocolate mixture. Once all the ingredients have been combined into one large bowl and mixed well, move on to the next step in the process.

Prepare a greased 9 inch square baking pan and pour the mixture in. Slide the pan in the oven and bake it at 350° for up to 18 to 21 minutes. To check if the brownies are baked properly, insert a toothpick near the centre and see if it comes out clean. However, the optimum baking time for the brownies is cited to be around 20 minutes as we do not want to over bake them!

Once the brownies are baked and out of the oven, it’s time for the topping! First, combine the butter and brown sugar in a large bowl. Mix well and slowly add the coconut flakes, pecan nuts, corn syrup and milk. Ensure that all the ingredients have been stirred properly and that the mixture is even, with no lumps. Take a teaspoon and carefully spread the topping mixture onto the warm brownies evenly. Once this has been done, broil the brownies 6 inches away from the heat for 2 to 4 minutes until the top is a beautiful golden brown. Cool the brownies on a wire rack, and cut them into bite sized pieces. Voila! You have just prepared 16 servings of the most ambrosial chocolate treat that is guaranteed to delight your senses and lift your mood!

Spread Filling over chocolate mixture. Sprinkle with ½ cup chocolate chips. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
